How to Create a Cosy Reading Nook at Home

One of the best bits about having a reading hobby is that it is a great excuse to snuggle down and get cosy. There is something so special about the simplicity of curling up with a good book, snuggled under a soft blanket with a warm tasty beverage by your side. All this in a dedicated reading nook is just the epitome of cosy reading.

Creating your own reading nook is good for the soul, looks cute in your home, plus it is kind of practical to have a dedicated space for reading when there is a distinct possibility that you have a mountain of books around you.

Choosing the right spot for your reading nook

The right spot for your reading nook is probably going to be dictated by the amount of space you have.

Start by choosing how much furniture you want to dedicate to the nook, whether it is simply a comfy chair and a shelf.

Or it may be several bookcases, an armchair and a side table.

Next consider if you read best with lots of natural light, in which case you want to be near a window.

Or if you will be using indoor lamps to set the mood. Then pick somewhere with space and wall sockets.

Seating options for the reading space

Comfort preferences need to be the priority for choosing your seating for the reading nook.

A simple armchair is a great option.

Or keep it casual with a super-large bean bag.

We have seen loads of the oversized circle armchairs on social media which look ideal for curling up into for a long reading session.

Or if you are feeling old-school maybe spring for a chaise longue.

How to create comfort and atmosphere for the best cosy nook

Blankets and cushions are probably the first thing that comes to mind for creating comfort in your book corner.

For a cosy atmosphere think about adding additional lighting such as low-level side lamps or strings of fairy lights. We love filling our space with scented candles. And a few healthy plants make the space feel homely.

And of course, comfort means thinking about the practical touches like a shelf or side table where you can place your drinks.

Make your nook personal

Probably the most important part of creating your reading nook is to choose your style. Ask yourself what kind of vibe feels inspiring or cosy or most you.

Some might like a more minimalist approach. Others may veer towards the maximalist styling. Maybe you might like to decorate your book nook in the style of your favourite genre.

We like to decorate our space and shelves with ornaments and art work that inspires us.

Hopefully these reading nook ideas inspire you to create something personal and cosy to enjoy reading your books this season. Having a little corner to yourself is a lovely little luxury to create.
