The story

In a world dominated by screens and scrolling we realised we were really starting to drift away from and lose that sense of community.

We missed that sense of connection with people who shared our interests and hobbies.

We lacked the opportunities to make new friends in adulthood.

We struggled when we moved to a new area, especially when working from home.

And honestly, we had meandered away from one of our favourite pastimes, getting lost in a good book.

We were craving for connection and community, the chance to make new friends with shared interests. And we wanted to do it in a way that was cosy, inviting, warm.

In a world of overwhelm and noise, we wanted to create a cosy space to share stories and get away from it all.

And so, The Nookery Book Club was born.

About the founder

Hello and welcome to The Nookery Book Club. I’m Elizabeth and I love words.

Reading books, for me, has been such a therapeutic escape from the everyday. To then get the chance to chat with super lovely friendly people about the books afterwards is such a joy.

I started this book club after making new friends in my local area and realising how much I wanted to share this vibe with more people.

I would love for this book club to be a safe and inclusive space for people to have fun, make new friends, and really just to have a little ‘me time’ which I think is something we all need to prioritise sometimes.

Our mission

We want to create a series of book clubs that encourage community, conversation, and an overall cosy vibe that leaves our members with a sense of connection and belonging.

Our values

  • Joy of reading - we are all about focusing on pleasure, curiosity, and conversation.

  • Community-driven - we are not just a book club, we are a place to belong.

  • Inclusive and warm - safe, friendly, and welcoming spaces.

  • Cosy connection - reading books as a starting point to friendships.
